But if I say I’ll never mention the Lord or speak in His name, His word burns in my heart like a fire. It’s like a fire in my bones! I am worn out trying to hold it in! I can’t do it! Jeremiah 20:9, NLT.
These are the words Jeremiah spoke after Pashhur the priest had Jeremiah whipped and put into stocks for telling the people the message that they did not want to hear. The message from God was that the southern Kingdom of Judah should surrender to the Babylonians. God was going to use the Babylonians to punish Judah for its idol worship, child sacrifice, making their fellow Israelites slaves, and all of their other rebellion against God and His law.
I certainly do not claim to be a “Jeremiah.” I have not suffered like Jeremiah suffered. And I do not claim that God has spoken to me directly. But I do have God’s word. And I also have a burning desire to communicate His truth to people. And like Jeremiah, I have a message that our spiritual leaders do not want to hear.
Satan is the father of lies. People in this society have been led to believe that they cannot believe the Bible because of “science.” The truth that I wish to communicate to people is that they can believe the Bible! As a director of the San Antonio Bible Based Science Association (SABBSA), I have been trying to partner with churches and church organizations to teach people this truth. But like Jeremiah, church leaders just want me to be quiet and go away.
I chronicle all of my efforts to reach out to church leadership in my book – Why Should I Believe? Two points I am trying to communicate to church leaders are:
1. You cannot expect people to have biblical values if they do not believe the Bible.
2. People that do not believe the Bible starting with Genesis do not believe the Bible.
Again, as I discuss in my book, I have learned that many professing Christians do not have biblical values. And these same Christians do not believe the Bible. And these Christians do not believe the Bible because the church has not taught them that they can believe the Bible. So they have accepted the world’s position that you cannot believe the Bible because of “science.”
One example I give in my book of this is when the boy scouts made a decision to allow openly homosexual scouts in 2013. The Southern Baptist Convention passed a resolution opposing this – and rightly so. But again, the Southern Baptist Convention is making the mistake of expecting people to have biblical value when they do not believe the Bible. And why should they? After making attempts to contact the San Antonio Baptist Association and the Southern Baptist Convention about how we need to partner, I was referred to the various commissions such as the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission. After a number of attempts to contact them, I am still waiting to hear back.
Another example I give in my book is when the Catholic Church came out against the provisions of the Affordable Care Act that force employers to provide abortifacients. I attempted to contact local Catholic churches and the San Antonio Archdiocese to communicate to them what the problem is and how the San Antonio Bible Based Science Association can help. They never did respond.
Now what has happened more recently? This May, Ireland voted 62.1% for same-sex “marriage.” As of 2012, Ireland was 84% Catholic. Do you think that these Irish Catholics believe the Bible?
Now our own Supreme Court will be making a ruling on marriage. Activist judges over and over have overturned state recognition of a marriage being a man and a woman. Now we will have to wait and see what side of the bed justice Kennedy wakes up on the day he casts his vote to find out what the future of marriage is in this country – and maybe what the future of this country is.
But people are just not connecting the dots. We heard the news media say that Governor Scott Walker is not “educated” enough to be president because he does not believe in the General Theory of Evolution. President Obama is a Darwinist. President Obama nominated two of our current U.S. Supreme Court justices. We know how they are going to vote on the marriage issue. If all of the people who claim to be Christians really believed the Bible, would Obama have been elected? Would we be in our current situation waiting to see what mood Justice Kennedy is in when he casts the deciding vote and determines the future of our country?
