Robert Reich says that the GOP has “died in 2016” and “been replaced by warring tribes.” One of these “tribes” is “Evangelicals opposed to abortion, gay marriage, and science.”1 Just to clarify in case there is someone out there who does not get what he is saying; Reich is saying that anyone that believes the Bible rather than Darwin is opposed to science. Again, as a reminder, The General Theory of Evolution and the big bang theory are actually products of philosophical materialism – a way of attempting to explain everything without God. According to Reich, Louis Pasteur was opposed to science. Pasteur stated “Posterity will one day laugh at the foolishness of modern materialistic philosophers. The more I study nature, the more I stand amazed at the work of the Creator. I pray while I am engaged at my work in the laboratory.”2
But I am very happy that Reich wrote this. Reich makes for me two points that I have been trying to make for years. The first point is that this is an issue that the church needs to deal with. Read Reich’s own blog. It states: “ROBERT B. REICH is Chancellor’s Professor of Public Policy at the University of California at Berkeley and Senior Fellow at the Blum Center for Developing Economies. He served as Secretary of Labor in the Clinton administration, for which Time Magazine named him one of the ten most effective cabinet secretaries of the twentieth century.”3 So Robert Reich is a very influential person that affects public policy. And he is stating that people who believe the biblical creation account rather than the General Theory of Evolution oppose science. And the church is turning a blind eye to this. They are sticking their fingers in their ears and going “la, la, la.” They just absolutely refuse to deal with it. So what are parishioners left to believe when the only point of view they get on this issue is from Reich and all of the other Darwinists?
The second point that Reich makes for me is that people’s beliefs about science is actually a part of their overall world view and actually helps form their world view – their religion. Reich makes this point for me by lumping the issues of abortion, “gay marriage,” and science together. As I keep saying over and over, you cannot expect people to have a biblical world view if they do not believe the Bible. And if they do not believe the Bible starting with Genesis, they do not believe the Bible.
The prophet Isaiah warns us about philosophical materialism which leads to secular humanism. Isaiah 50:11 states: “But watch out, you who live in your own light and warm yourselves by your own fires”4
