Antonin Scalia’s death has sparked a hot debate. Ted Cruz has talked about not confirming anyone until our next president.1 Hillary has made the point that Barrack Obama is president until January 20, 2017.2 Hillary is absolutely right. President Obama has every right under the U. S. Constitution to nominate an individual to serve as justice on the U. S. Supreme Court. In fact, it is his constitutional duty. The Republican response should be: We will give President Obama’s nominee the same fair and impartial consideration that the Democrats gave to Robert Bork.
The late Ronald Reagan is guilty of giving us Anthony Kennedy. But Reagan also gave us Antonin Scalia. Barrack Obama gave us Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan. I do not think President Obama will make the same mistake that Reagan made. I am sure that Obama will nominate someone that will not disappoint the people that voted for him. His nominee will be in the mold of Kagan and Sotomayor, or at best Anthony Kennedy. By the way those three are three of the five justices that voted that a marriage could be between two dudes or two gals. The other two that voted for this were appointed by President Clinton.
Amos 5:10 states “How you hate honest judges! How you despise people who tell the truth!”3 It is interesting that in Amos 5:4-9, God is reminding us that He is the Creator who maintains this planet so that we can live on it. And this same God is imploring us to come back to Him.
