In January, on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, New York passed a law eliminating restrictions on late term abortions – even allowing babies born alive during attempted abortions to just die.1 A Born Alive Survivors Protection Act was introduced in Congress – which addresses doctors letting babies die when an abortion fails to kill the baby.2 Virginia Governor Northam had made comments supporting letting these babies die. But the bill was blocked.3 The Texas Legislature passed a similar bill to protect babies born alive.4 Some recent good news is the “9th Circuit Court sides with Trump administration on banning Title X funds for abortion.”5
What people need to understand is this issue is thousands of years old. About 600 B.C. , the prophet Ezekiel decried child sacrifice along with other sins; in stating why God was punishing the people of Judah with the Babylonian captivity – “I allowed them to give their firstborn children as offerings to their gods—so I might devastate them and remind them that I alone am the Lord.” Ezekiel 20:26 NLT.
About this same time, the prophet Jeremiah also spoke out – “And they have filled this place with the blood of innocent children. They have built pagan shrines to Baal, and there they burn their sons as sacrifices to Baal. I have never commanded such a horrible deed; it never even crossed my mind to command such a thing!” Jeremiah 19:4-5 NLT.
Child sacrifice was a sin repeated throughout the Old Testament. Earlier, II King 16:3 tells of King Ahaz sacrificing his own son. II King 21:6 tells of Ahaz’s grandson, King Manasseh, then doing the same thing. II King 17:17 lists child sacrifice as one of the sins committed in the account of the destruction of the northern Kingdom of Israel as punishment for their rebellion against God.
But it all goes back to the books of Moses – “You must not worship the Lord your God the way the other nations worship their gods, for they perform for their gods every detestable act that the Lord hates. They even burn their sons and daughters as sacrifices to their gods.” Deuteronomy 12:31 NLT. Leviticus 18:21, Leviticus 20:2-3 and Deuteronomy 18:10 also speak out against child sacrifice.
Our previous president did not really believe the books of Moses. In an interview with the York Daily Record, presidential candidate Obama stated: “I’m a Christian, and I believe in parents being able to provide children with religious instruction without interference from the state. But I also believe our schools are there to teach worldly knowledge and science. I believe in evolution, and I believe there’s a difference between science and faith. That doesn’t make faith any less important than science. It just means they’re two different things. And I think it’s a mistake to try to cloud the teaching of science with theories that frankly don’t hold up to scientific inquiry.”6
Now what did President Obama do? He went after the Little Sisters of the Poor with the Public Health Service Act that mandated religious employers to cover contraceptives and abortifacient pills.7 He withdrew federal funding for woman’s clinics in Texas because Texas cut off funding for Planned Parenthood clinics that provide abortions.8 And before that, Illinois Senator Barrack Obama voted against the born alive bill in 2001, 2002, 2003.9
Should all of this have been a surprise to anyone? I keep making the point that you cannot expect people to have biblical values if they do not believe the Bible. And if you do not believe the Bible starting with Genesis, you do not believe the Bible.
Like Obama, Hillary Clinton also professes Christianity,10 and is a Darwinist – stating in a 2017 interview: “I believe in evolution, and I am shocked at some of the things that people in public life have been saying,”11 And like Obama, she is vehemently “pro-choice.” On January 07, 2019, she was championing abortion in a speech at Bernard College. She was followed by Governor Andrew Cuomo who called for a constitutional amendment “protecting a woman’s right to control her reproductive health.” The phrase “woman’s right to control her reproductive health” is a euphemism for having no checks whatsoever on a woman killing her unborn baby. As Cuomo receives a standing ovation, he ends his speech invoking God’s blessing – saying “God bless you.”12 Really? If Cuomo, who is Roman Catholic, wants God’s blessing, he would do well to heed what the Bible says – “Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.” II Chronicles 7:14 NLT.
