I think most of us are familiar with the “There’s good news and bad news.” That is what I was thinking when I was looking at the stories on Bing on Thursday. I will start out with the bad news. The bad news is Vermont’s woman’s basketball team cancelled a scheduled game against the University of North Carolina.1 They canceled it is because North Carolina has enough sense to know that men should use men’s restrooms and locker rooms and women should use women’s restrooms and locker rooms.
This is not only common sense on the part of North Carolina. This is also what Jesus said in Matthew 19:4 when he quoted Genesis 1:27 – “Haven’t you read the Scriptures?” Jesus replied. “They record that from the beginning ‘God made them male and female.’2 The apostle Paul explained what is going on very well in II Corinthians 2:14-16 stating “But thank God! He has made us His captives and continues to lead us along in Christ’s triumphal procession. Now He uses us to spread the knowledge of Christ everywhere, like a sweet perfume. Our lives are a Christ-like fragrance rising up to God. But this fragrance is perceived differently by those who are being saved and by those who are perishing. To those who are perishing, we are a dreadful smell of death and doom. But to those who are being saved, we are a life-giving perfume.”3 I cannot explain it any better than Paul did. This is why the Vermont basketball team is upset, as well as same-sex “couples” when a business does not want to cater their “wedding,” as well as so called pro-choice people that do not want people to know the truth about abortion, as well as Darwinists that will actually fire people that challenge their dogma. 4
I have a proposal. Let all of the players on some men’s college basketball team wake up one morning and decide they feel like women. Then let them play one of the scheduled games against the Vermont women’s basketball team. All of the people who supported canceling this game should be supportive of this.
Now for the good news. Unlike other universities, the University of Chicago has decided to commit to free speech.5 This is very important; since people with an anti-biblical worldview have shut down free speech to shut down Christians. This is nothing new. Hebrews 11 talks about how the Old Testament prophets were tortured and killed for speaking the truth – “Some faced jeers and flogging, and even chains and imprisonment. They were put to death by stoning; they were sawed in two; they were killed by the sword.”6 The Liberty Bell quotes Leviticus 25:10 – “Proclaim Liberty Throughout All the Land Unto All the Inhabitants thereof.”7 For there to be Liberty, Christians must be able to speak biblical truth, as well as live biblical truth.
